OPPO Plans $30m Indonesia Plant<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chinese smartphone maker OPPO Technologies will start work on a $30 million assembly plant in Indonesia in March next year, following its entry into the country last year.<\/p>\n

The plant will be located near Tangerang, Banten, with the capacity to manufacture up to 500,000 smartphones per month, according to OPPO Indonesia chief executive Jet Lee.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe plant will make phones only for Indonesia, because the Indonesian market is so big,\u201d Lee said after the launch of OPPO\u2019s new phones \u2014 the R5 and theN3 \u2014 in Singapore on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

With the opening of its local branch last year, OPPO has seen a 6.5 percent market share in Indonesia, selling around 200,000 smart phone units monthly.<\/p>\n

Next year, the smartphone manufacturer aims to sell as many as 300,000 units per month, Lee said.<\/p>\n

With a youthful demographic and an expanding middle class, Indonesia has been the main attraction in the Southeast Asia region to many technology companies, such as OPPO.<\/p>\n

OPPO N1<\/p><\/div>\n

With a price tag of $649, the new N3 is equipped with a motorized rotating camera as its hallmark feature, highlighting OPPO\u2019s attempt to make its mark in mobile photography.<\/p>\n

The smartphone manufacturer first has introduced the rotating camera feature last year with its N1 model.<\/p>\n

The R5 phone meanwhile, is only 4.85 millimeters thick \u2014 the slimmest smartphone in the world, OPPO says \u2014 fitted with a 13 megapixel camera on the back and a 5 megapixel camera on the front.<\/p>\n

The R5 will be commercially available in Indonesia in November, while the N3 will follow in December, according to OPPO Indonesia\u2019s Jet Lee.<\/p>\n

\u201cOPPO is committed to provide the best mobile photography technology quality,\u201d Sky Lie, general manager of OPPO Technologies\u2019 overseas mobile phone business, in Singapore, said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the two new products, you can see that we do have the most cutting-edge technology for smartphones.\u201d<\/p>\n

The smartphone manufacturer has also partnered with a German camera maker to ramp up the camera hardware for its new products.<\/p>\n

OPPO was established in 2004 as an electronic household device manufacturer, launching its line of smartphones seven years later.<\/p>\n

“Rencananya sudah mulai beroperasi Maret tahun depan dengan kapasitas produksi 500 ribu unit ponsel per bulan,” ungkap Jet Lee, CEO PT Indonesia Oppo Electronics usai peluncuran N3 dan R5\u200e di Marina Bay Sands, Singapura, Rabu (29\/10\/2014).<\/p>\n

Oppo yang mulai hadir di Indonesia sejak akhir 2012 lalu ternyata cukup mendapat respons positif dari kalangan pecinta smartphone di Indonesia. Buktinya, Oppo hingga saat ini bisa meraih pangsa pasar 6% dengan total penjualan 200 ribu unit setiap bulannya.<\/p>\n

“Tahun depan target kita meningkat, kami optimistis bisa jual 300 ribu unit tiap bulan. \u200eItu sebabnya kami berani bangun pabrik, dan kapasitas produksi itu hanya untuk pasar Indonesia saja,” pungkas Jet Lee.<\/p>\n
