A Teen Just Invented Footwear That Charges Your Phone As You Walk.<\/p>\n

Angelo Casimiro, a 15-year-old Filipino inventor, created footwear that generates electricity to charge your cell phone as you run and walk.<\/p>\n

In his entry video for Google\u2019s Science Fair, Casimiro explains, “We know as a fact that an average human takes 7,000 steps a day. So, I ask myself, maybe it\u2019s possible to harvest energy from my footsteps?\u00a0Electricity is generated using an insole generator that is made out of two pairs of piezoe-electric discs, which produce energy when the crystal bend inward.”<\/p>\n

\"Angelo<\/a><\/p>\n

Casimiro lives in the Philippines, where many people deal with issues associated with poverty and limited electricity. He was inspired to create an energy alternative not related to wind, solar, hydro or bio-gas.<\/p>\n

He says, “Yes, it sounds like a crazy idea and judging by the sound of it, doesn\u2019t even have practical use, neither will it solve the world energy crisis, but at the end of the presentation, you may even be proven wrong.”<\/p>\n

Although initial tests show Casimiro\u2019s invention only gives a cell phone 10 minutes of charge after a 2-hour session of playing basketball, his work seems promising. And, considering the amount of times my phone has died on me in the middle of the day and I\u2019ve found myself scrounging around for a charger, I\u2019m really rooting for him.<\/p>\n
