Virgin Australia said it cancelled its Friday flights from Australia to several locations due to the eruption, including the resort islands of Bali in Indonesia and Phuket in Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe eruption sounded like thousands of bombs exploding,\u201d Ratno Pramono, a 35-year-old farmer. \u201cI thought doomsday was upon us. Women and children were screaming and crying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/indogomagazine.com\/indogo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kelud_1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1092\" alt=\"Gunung Kelud\" src=\"http:\/\/indogomagazine.com\/indogo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kelud_1.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"auto\" srcset=\"http:\/\/indogomagazine.com\/indogo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kelud_1.jpg 460w, http:\/\/indogomagazine.com\/indogo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kelud_1-300x187.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The volcano continued to rumble, spewing ash high into the air, thoughout the night.<br \/>\n\u201cIt seems Kelud isn\u2019t finished yet,\u201d said Retno Dwiningtyas, a mother of three who was sitting in a government shelter watching television reports of her village showing crumpled roofs, farms and broken chairs blanketed with thick gray ash. \u201cWe are afraid for our cattle, our farm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kelud is among about 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which sits astride the Pacific Ocean\u2019s \u201cRing of Fire\u201d &#8211; a series of fault lines stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia.<br \/>\nThe fertile volcanic soil and the shortage of space on Java means hundreds of thousands of people live close to active volcanoes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/indogomagazine.com\/indogo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kelud_2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1093\" alt=\"Gunung kelud\" src=\"http:\/\/indogomagazine.com\/indogo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kelud_2.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"auto\" srcset=\"http:\/\/indogomagazine.com\/indogo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kelud_2.jpg 460w, http:\/\/indogomagazine.com\/indogo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kelud_2-300x187.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nKelud\u2019s last major eruption was in 1990, when it spewed out searing fumes and lava that killed more than 30 people and injured hundreds. In 1919, a powerful explosion killed at least 5,160 people.<br \/>\nMount Sinabung in North Sumatra province erupted two weeks ago as authorities were allowing thousands of villagers who had been evacuated to return to its slopes, killing 16 people.
